Johan Idema is a passionate promoter of cultural innovation. He works as a consultant, writer, initiator and cultural entrepreneur. Johan specializes in creative concept development, business planning, strategic and innovation management and fundraising.
Johan has extensive experience as a senior arts consultant at Dutch consultancy firm LAgroup. His clients included major Dutch cultural institutions, such as the Concertgebouw, Paradiso, Royal Theatre Carré, Groninger Forum, Premsela, the Van Gogh Museum, Design Academy Eindhoven and several cultural foundations.
Johan speaks regularly at conferences and has a track record in writing. His recent publications include Beyond the Black Box and the White Cube (2009), Present! – Rethinking Live Classical Music (2011) and How to Visit an Art Museum (2014).
Johan has worked at several cultural institutions, including Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts (New York) and, as Chief Programming, at the Netherlands Architecture Institute (Rotterdam). He obtained master degrees in Innovation Management at Delft University and in Arts Administration at New York University.
In 2014 Johan was awarded an oeuvre prize as ‘New Radical, changing the art world for the better.’
